Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) Faculty of Law with the cooperation of Leiden University and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands organizes a public lecture by Professor Larissa van den Herik which will be held on November 26, 2024 at 17:00, TSU I Academic Building, Room 107.
The public lecture is organised in honour of Rudolph Cleveringa - who was a law professor at Leiden University. As dean of the Faculty of Law he protested, in a public speech on 26 November 1940, against the dismissal of Jewish colleagues by the Nazi Occupying Powers, and especially his colleague Meyers. He was arrested shortly afterwards. His speech sparked a strike amongst students; the university was then closed by the Nazis and it remained closed throughout the war. In his honour, each year, the Leiden University Fund organizes Cleveringa lectures at numerous places in the world.
This year, Cleveringa Lecture in Georgia will discuss International Criminal Law. Those wishing to attend the event are kindly asked to fill out the following registration link by November 24: https://forms.gle/TNjFQjbnSkMKN4GZ8
It is noteworthy that the TSU Faculty of Law hosted the Cleveringa Lecture in 2023 in collaboration with Leiden University and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Last year, the lecture was dedicated to personal data protection issues, in particular, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the prospects for its implementation in practice.
